What is quartz?

Quartz, a term used in geology, generally refers to low-temperature quartz (α-quartz), which is the most widely distributed mineral in the quartz family. The generalized quartz also includes high temperature quartz (β-quartz), coesite, and the like. The main component is SiO2, which is colorless and transparent, often contains a small amount of impurity components, and becomes a translucent or opaque crystal with a hard texture. Quartz is a mineral resource with very stable physical and chemical properties. The crystal belongs to the trigonal oxide mineral. Quartz block, also known as silica, is mainly used to produce quartz sand (also known as silica sand), and is also a raw material for quartz refractories and fired ferrosilicon.

石英

a mineral consisting of silica, chemical formula SiO2. Pure quartz is colorless and transparent, contains a small amount of pigment ions or finely dispersed inclusions, or has a color center and various colors, and reduces transparency; glass luster, the fracture is grease luster. Hardness 7; no cleavage; shell-like fracture. The proportion is 2.65. It is piezoelectric. Colorless, transparent quartz, known by the Greeks as "Krystallos", meaning "white ice", they are convinced that quartz is durable and strong ice. Ancient Chinese believed that cold crystals in their mouths could quench their thirst.
